On March 28, The Chosen: Last Supper—that is, Season 5 of The Chosen— will begin its world-wide theatrical release, and it couldn’t come at a better time. This is the Season that focuses on Holy Week—from the Triumphal Entry to Jesus’ betrayal. The intensity of this historic week is going to gain momentum through each of the eight episodes of Season 5, as Jesus reveals the reason he came to earth. Because Season 5 is going to open in 50 countries (compared to 44 last year) in 10 languages, the impact is going to be felt globally. That’s why we are asking you to pray more than ever and with greater purpose for Come & See and The Chosen.

Recently I read an excellent book by Greg Pruett called Extreme Prayer. Using Pruett’s prayer principles as a guide, I want to suggest five ways you can pray for Season 5.

Pray in the name of Jesus.

The reason we pray this way is because Jesus told his disciples to pray in his name (John 14:13-14). But what does it really mean to pray in the name of Jesus, and how can we apply it to Come & See and The Chosen? Pruett suggests that it literally means obeying Jesus’s command to bring his salvation to each person and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

This was a tall order when Jesus first gave the command, but now it is entirely possible with the technology available to the vast majority of people in the world. While great numbers of people will be able to experience The Chosen: Last Supper in a theater, more than a billion will eventually be able to watch Season 5—and every other season—in 600 languages on The Chosen App. All for free. Pray that people who are far from God will come to know, love, follow, and obey Jesus—whether they watch The Chosen in a theater, on a streaming service, or on their smartphones.

Pray expectantly.

Pruett writes, “God powerfully answers prayers fueled by faith.” This simply means to pray with the expectation that God will answer. Already we have seen God open millions of hearts and minds to the story of the authentic Jesus as told in The Chosen. A recurring response I hear from people after they watch The Chosen is that they can relate to Jesus as someone relates to a friend. He’s someone to know—not just know about.

Pray for your friends and family who don’t know Jesus in this way. Pray that by watching The Chosen, they will be encouraged to know Jesus on a deeper, more personal level. And be ready to give an answer to any questions they might have about Jesus (1 Peter 3:15).

Pray specifically.

Here’s a statement from Pruett that may surprise you: “General prayers hinder our faith.” The truth is, God loves to answer our specific prayers. He’s like a baseball player waiting for the right pitch to hit. “He longs for us to throw him something specific that he can knock out of the park,” Pruett writes.

How can you pray specifically for Come & See and The Chosen? There are dozens of global ministries—such as Alpha, OneHope, YouVersion, Bible Project, Cru, and Jesus.net—who are using The Chosen to share the true story of Jesus with millions of people around the world. Pray for the tens of thousands of people who work with these ministries, that God would use them as he changes the hearts of unbelievers.

Pray persistently.

After Jesus ascended into heaven, several of his disciples gathered in the Upper Room and were “joined together constantly in prayer” (Acts 1:14). They took prayer seriously and stuck to it.

When you pray for Come & See and The Chosen, stay with it. The Apostle Paul put it this way: “Pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Pray for Dallas Jenkins and the production team as they get ready to film Season 6, and keep praying through the completion of production later this summer. Make a list of people you know who have not yet seen The Chosen, and keep praying until they do.

Pray with others.

Prayer is both a private and public discipline. It’s important to do as Jesus did and get away by yourself to pray. But there is also great value in corporate prayer. In fact, by being a member of the Come & See Prayer Crew, you are joining more than 150,000 other faithful prayer partners around the world who are lifting up the ministry of Come & See in prayer, so that we can make it possible for a billion people to experience the authentic Jesus through The Chosen.

Praying expectantly, specifically, persistently, and corporately—all in the name of Jesus—is the way God wants us to pray. Let’s not wait another minute. The time to pray this way is now!
